Inilah Band Deathmetal asal Montreal-Kanada yang dibentuk pada tahun 1991,setahun kemudian tepatnya pada 1992 mereka meluncurkan Demo tang diberi titel Death Gate Cycle Of Reincarnation,tak lama berselang band ini menandatangani kontrak dengan perusahaan rekaman asal Jerman Yaitu NuclearBlast Records,mereka menyebut musik mereka sebagai " Northern Hyperblast " ini mengacu pada kecepatan Drum yang dimainkan oleh Max Duhamel,tidak itu saja band ini juga terkenal dengan teknik permainan berkecepatan tinggi yang diakui Extreme metal scene,berturut-turut mereka merelease album sejak tahun 1996 menelorkan Sorcery setahun kemudian album Temple of Knowledge dimuntahkan,musik Kataklysm sempat berubah setelah ditinggalkan sang Vokalis Sylvian Houde yang dilaporkan cedera perubahan permainan musik ini dapat didengar di album Victims of this fallen world(1998) dan album The Prophecy(2000),pada saat itu posisi vokal diambil alih pemain bass Maurizo Lacon.
Dan pada tahun 2006 Max Duhamel kembali ke band lagi dan merelease album In the arms of Devastations.
